For specific indications - yes.

One immediate CT may be better than a plaster, two weeks of 
immobilisation, a clinic visit, a second Xray and the physiotherapy 
to get rid of the plaster stiffness!

Don't Eek to much! Times are a-changing -I think that MRI scanners 
will soon probably be small and cheap enough to replace many of 
the joint Xrays (ankle, wrist and knee) that we now perform in which 
the soft tissue part of the injury is probably more important than the 
fractures.
