Dr. Jan Nijs:
In my opinion, and I must say I am just a med student, you did =
absolutely the right thing. First of all, a rythm compatible with life =
is difficult when you find a patient in asystole, much more if your =
patient suffered from severe trauma as you post, since you don"t know =
if he still has a heart to resuscitate.
I would also like to ask why your professor was "inside" the crowd and =
not securing the scene or stabilizing one of the victims neck for =
example, trying to secure an airway with his hands, etc. In my country =
if you are a medical doctor and you witness a car accident or a cardiac =
arrest or any kind of medical emergency and you don't do anything to =
help while you wait for the ambulance you may get prossecuted for had =
"abandoned your patient".
Another thing is that, we won't know for certain unless an autopsy is =
performed, but we can all presume that his internal organ damage =
excluded him from becoming a potential donor. I wonder if your =
professor's son wasn't expecting a kidney if he would have done the same =
thing.
I hope you can understand me, I am a little rusty in my English.
